Elle magazine's correspondent hinted at the fact that it is not ridiculous for women to have condoms in a drawer but that it would be strange to see condoms in a candy dish on a table; which is exactly what Maya did. I can't believe there are still people who look down on women who carry condoms (or have condoms in their house). Not all women are in monogamous relationships and if they want to protect themselves they should always be prepared!

In the interview, he said that he does not like women who have their own condoms and that that turns him off. I think this is a very out-of date and chauvinist declaration. By saying this, he basically said that women are not entitled to have casual sex... and that it is totally ok for men to do it. I think he is completely wrong in this. A message saying that it is ok for females to have condoms. it shows they are prepared if anything should happen and that they are safe and actually uses them. if anything that should turn a male on and not off!
ReplyDeleteFirst thing first is men carry condoms in their wallets, pockets, etc.. and is not judged, so what is the big issue when a women decides to carry or even condoms at home. Female condoms were made for a reason. I think that Maya has the bowl of condoms to represent intelligence and safe sex. Like she said, true they are collecting dust, however if there ever is a time where the need be used, she is already prepared, and are slimming her and the partners chances of catching an std or becoming pregnant. I think that there is nothing wrong with this at all, and men should feel the same.

I think Maya puts condoms on her table because she is conscience about the consequences of unprotected sex. She is just making sure she uses protection. Maybe Will.i.am is right in the sense of just having a whole bowl full of the on a coffee table. I think she should keep them in her room in the bed-side table. Keeping a whole bowl full out in the open may send the wrong message to a guy, like all you do is have sex.

I feel like she puts condoms out on her coffee table because she is aware of how many people do not use them and she is trying to promote them. Also she is trying to show that there is no way she would have sex with someone with out a condom. I think she could do it in a more discrete way but i think she is sending a message to men that come over that if they were going to have sex they will be using a condom.
ReplyDeleteshe stated that as her first act of what Andrea Plank coined "Skank solidarity", she is gathering all of the condoms in her apartment and putting them in a candy bowl on her coffee table. I think she has the right to do that if she wants to and no one should have anything negative to say. I think her gesture is to show that it is okay for women to provide the protection and that she is in control of her health and personal being. From a guys perspectve, I could see how he would react walking into a females house and there is a bowl of condoms on the table, he might take that the wrong way. I wouldn't do, but she's doing it to send a message about having safe sex and that she will not engage without using a condom.
ReplyDeleteWhat prompts blogger Maya to put a bowl of condoms on her coffee table is her sarcasm. She disagrees with Will.i.am when he explains that it is tacky if a woman possesses condoms. I understand the fact that he might think that it is slutty for a girl to have a bunch because he might think that she sleeps around, however, it is only the common sense thing to do. It is better to have them than not have any at all. Maya is trying to make a statement that it doesn't matter if a woman has a bowl of condoms on her coffee table because at least she has is being smart and taking control of her body and protection.

Having comdoms is not something that should be seen as a bad thing or a turn off because that shows that she is in control of her sex life and hse is prepaired if she ever needed to use one. I think it is really ignorant for someone to to assum that just because a woman has her own condoms that she is not suitable.

I feel she did this so show that if men can have condoms in their homes without anyone saying anything is wrong with it then why can't women? I think it's wrong to look down upon women for being responsible. If anything I feel men should have more respect for a women who feels self worthy enough to be prepared in any situation. I respect Mays decision and her bowl of condoms.

I feel that the condoms on the cofee table shows that she is control of her sex life and that she means buisness when it comes to having safe sex. Many males may feel as if a women who carries her own condoms may be a women that has sex alot where that may not be the case at all. I think that it is a good choice for a women to have her own condom.

She does this to remind her of the ignorance that Will i am has. He thinks that it is tacky for women to have condoms in her house and does not feel that condoms in her house means she is health conscious. Will I am is comparing a wet sink the the health consciousness of a female having condoms in her home. I feel that will i am is hoping to have unprotected sex with women that he is with instead of using a condom and this is why condoms are a turn off for him.
