What do you see in this graphic? Describe the graphic. What do you think the designers of the graphic are trying to say and describe the technique they use to say it. There's only 6 words. What else are they saying with these 6 words?
The 6 words are saying that art of women starts with they body being exploited and end will when women are stop being silent. Women are only treated the way they allow people to treat them, so until they speak up nothing will change. I see the graphic as art of a nude women on the other hand a picture of a girl fully clothe, it could mean she not consider art or noticed because she has clothes on. The designer could be trying to say that this is how women are seen on the daily basis. Kerra Jones
In the graphic, I see two females, one nude with her breasts covered and the other dressed with her mouth covered. The designers of the graphic are trying to say that it starts with women being demoralized by their physical appearance and ends with no one ever talking about it. This has been going on since the beginning of time, as you can tell, the photo on the left takes place hundreds of years ago and compares to the current day photo on the right. Also, the image portrays women this way through art (left) and in reality (right). The only way women will stop being exploited in this manner is if they speak up.
I see what would have been a beautiful painting of a woman who is undressed and proud of her body if there wasn't a big ugly black bar in the picture. It starts with people censoring women and it ends with us being silenced and not proud of our bodies. How many women feel confident when they are naked? My guess is not too many. The woman was painted nude for a reason, if people are censoring what artists are being inspired by who would be willing to put it all out there? Why bother painting, drawing, or being beautiful if someone is just going to cover you up? We are silenced because of censorship.
The 6 words in this graphic are saying that even if women do show their bodies, it doesn't matter because what they say still wont matter and will not be heard. I think the artist who made this graphic is trying to get the point across that once woman put their bodies out there, in the end they will have no room to talk about it. The designer chose an old painting of a nude woman and compared it to a real life clothed woman trying to say how woman are perceived nowadays.
I think that the first picture with the nude woman shows that women are constantly being exploited for their bodies and the second woman represents the silence followed by it. Women rarely speak about how the majority of us are dominated and exploited by the majority of men on a daily basis. I think this image says a lot about that. Brittney Edwards
I think the graphic is showing how women are depicted. You are one or the other, there is no being in the middle. The graphic is saying that women are either sex objects and are not took serious. Inorder for a women to get her point across she has to be willing to bare something, and lose her self-idenity as well. When a women doesn't want to conform to society, no-one pays her any attention. It's hard for her to get her point across. The women has to demand attention from society. It's up to the women on how she wants to be portrayed by others. You have to be one or the other, you cant meet in the middle, which says it hard for a women to balance her sexuality, and to be took seriously.
What I believe this graphic is trying to show with these six words and the pictures. Is that women are always drawn naked and but in these paintings these naked women are seen showing off their bodies and proud of them. However women when they are naked are just looked at as pieces of meat. so what the words are saying is that first its naked pictures of women that keep women from being looked at as intellectuals and since this is happening then then women are silenced in general in all aspects of things.
For some reason, looking at these two images reminds me of the saying "girls are to be seen not heard". I think this graphic is saying that it first starts with womens bodies being shown off like some sex object. In the picture on the left, the womens' breast are covered up. A lot of women aren't comfortable with their naked bodies being out in the open. The other image represents silence, not because women aren't speaking up for themselves but because women are not being listened to. Tiera Gary
I think the artist is trying to say that woman are paid attention to when they are showing their bodies but they are not when they speak. I also think she is trying to say by covering up the breast that some women do not want to show off their bodies and the mouth being covered up says to me that women feel they are never heard.
I think this graphic is saying that when society used to think of women they used to think that they were beautiful and loved painting them. Now society wants to cover their mouths up so they do not have an opinion on anything. This is not okay for women to be portrayed this way. This goes back to the way that men dictate the art industry.
First, I think that a man is the one capable of the nude picture and a woman is capable of the other. I think that the artists are first trying to sow growth of the woman culture. It starts with the "IDEAL" woman that men perceived to be. Beautiful, pure, and exploited by men, but their explicitness is not necessarily a bad thing or a sex thing. The modern picture, to me, is showing the evolving of woman. Women are now artists in ALL different forms, and I'm guessing the artist is trying to portray what a man feels a women should be.. Quiet, with no opinion, or no other purpose besides to be a wife and a mother.
In the graphic I see two women, one who is censored by her breast and one who is censored by her mouth. I believe the designers of this graphic are saying that once women and censored for what makes them a woman, it will eventually lead to devocalization of women all together. Even with six works and two photos, the message is very clear what the designers were trying to say. The pain in the woman's eyes in the second image seem to say that she is being demoralized for being a women, therefore has no more right to speak her mind.
In the graphic I see a woman whose breasts are censored and in the other one her mouth is censored. It used to be common for females to pose nude for artists, but now it is not so much appropriate and that is why her breasts are covered. With the womans mouth being covered it symbolizes that women are not aloud to express how they feel and that women are to be more conservative since the girl whose mouth is covered has clothes on.
The artist is trying to say that people need to stop focusing on women as sexual objects and let them speak their mind more. I think the artist did a great job at getting his point across in a very simple way. Nothing really flashing except for 6 words, two pictures, and black duct tape. With all those things it displayed a simple message of letting women be more than just a pretty smile
In this picture one woman's breasts are censored with the words "It starts here.." above and the second woman with her mouth censored and the words "and ends here..." below. Right away, my first thoughts were that this picture is showing that seeing woman for what is within rather than their naked body is a step towards giving woman proper respect that they deserve. By censoring the womans mouth and say "and ends here.." shows that woman will no long be silenced again discrimination and how important it is to listen to what woman are saying instead of using them for visual purposes only. I think this picture sends a powerful message to women that we need to start using our voice to lead others away from our physical features.
Looking at this graphic I couldn't really come up with some superb explanation as to what the designer of this graphic is trying to say. I feel like this graphic is trying to say that something starts with women having to hide the fact that they (we) have attributes to give to the world, but it ends with our (women) mouths often being shut, as if we have nothing to say. Just because someone is a female she is better off being silent although she knows and belives she the power to contribute to the world.
This graphic seems very straight forward. It’s bringing attention to two specific body parts on woman’s bodies. I think that the designers are trying to show more women that they should be noticed for what is on their mind and not what is underneath their clothes. I feel that the caption is saying society can stop making women known only for their body so it starts by ceasing the attention of objectifying a woman’s body. And it ends actually showing that a woman’s thoughts and words have meaning.
I feel that this picture could give off several messages, but what I took away from it was it's all up to what is being allowed nowadays. This is a representation of how women are looked at as far as their bodies go instead of what they have to say. In the picture the mouth and breast are censored out and this is for a reason. I feel that the reason is women body parts should be covered up to take the focus elsewhere like what has to come out of the mouth instead of off of her body. It starts with objectivity and ends with women speaking up more
When I hear the word censorship I think of a form of speech that can be considered harmful to others. When looking at this picture I notice that the first girl is from a long time ago when it was art to paint women naked and the second picture shows a modern day women dressed conservative with her mouth covered up. I think this picture is trying to say that the public really only cares about what the women looks like and as soon as she speaks, they have no more interest in her. Today, it seems as if women are only looked at and not heard and this picture is a great example of what women are looked as.
In the graphic i believe that they both say that women are not allowed to speak, the body do the talking for them. In the first graphic of the naked woman, is that back then the body of a woman was viewed as a piece of art of some sort but yet what she said had to say had little meaning. In the second graphic with the female with her mouth coverd says that now what the female says doesnt matter and her body no longer matters either. the titles "it starts here" and "it ends here" means that even back then what women saqid didnt matter and that hopefully today we can put a stop to it now.
I think this image is trying to say that the body of a woman is nothing to be ashamed of. However, this message is not what we get all over in the media. I don't think the painting portrays women as a sex objects, but depicts their beauty and feminine qualities. The fact that the breasts are censored completely cancels the women identity. The designers of the graphic go further more and say that if a woman is not allowed to be feminine and comfortable with her own body, how in the world are we supposed to be comfortable with our thoughts? Lets remember that a person, is not just a mind or a body. It is both... plus a little bit of a soul in there somewhere.
I think that the censoring of the woman's breasts in one picture and the mouth in the other is showing that the media is trying to cover up or take away the fact that these people are female and feminine. The picture on the left is a beautiful painting of a woman showing off here femininity, but today's media is telling us that it is not okay to be comfortable with and show off our bodies. The picture on the left is showing that what women say does not need to be heard. Both pictures are saying that women have something to be ashamed of. Kara Higgins
In this image you see two women in which they both have something censored. One woman breast is censored and I think this is saying to the media that enough of women being exposed and that women should take pride and cover themselves. They should treat their bodies like treasures. The other woman mouth is censored. This may be because she wanted to speak out on something that make women take more pride in themselves. She probably tried to stand up and speak out on how women are protrayed as sex objects in just about everything they do. The reason this woman is censored is because she wanted to speak her mind and people don't want to hear the truth or they dont want to hear women stand up for what's right. Shanicqua Landis
The woman in the painting was very proud of her body and was being viewed as a piece of art, not being subjected to being treated as an object. She was proud so there was no reason to cover up or to censor what she was willing to show off. The other woman is being censored by her mouth, and making it seem taht she shouldn't be talking. Women should be confident and willing to show off their minds, and their bodies if they so choose to.
The 6 words are saying that women should not be silent anymore, that what we have to say is important. That whether we are fully clothed or not we are beautiful and the clothing should not matter. Do not use us sex symbols or people that just not matter. Do not use our body as a reflection of who we are because they are just an extension of a very complex gender.
These 6 words explain how a society of some men view women; as sexual objects and as non-intellectual. By keeping women silent they are unable to fight for their rights as a equal person.
I think that the artist is trying to bring attention to the issue of censorship. When I look at the piece it made me question just how far censorship can go. First we're not showing certain aspects of art, then excluding entire categories of art until we are editing ourselves entirely. It also brings to mind what exactly are we censoring who decides what's appropriate and when?
In this graphic i am surprise that the drawing has a censor on her breast because usually that would just let it show being art. To me the lady is trying to get across that it starts out with women being manipulated with having to be naked to get attention but at the end of the day women still has no say so. I also feel the 6 words alone have a strong impact on the two photos.
The 6 words indicate that the woman on the left is proud of her body and feels beautiful and wants to be seen as a piece of art rather than a sexual object. But today's media does not seem to want women to be able to express themselves creatively which is why most women who are artists get critisized. The picture on the right indicates that women should not have the ability to speak their mind and be creative. Once again, the media indicates that women should not have the ability to be creative and speak their minds. Also, people may think that what women have to say is of less importance or that they may say something that the world and our society is not yet ready to hear.
The 6 words and the pictures to me show that art has changed greatly over time. By adding the censor bars it shows the oppression of woman. In the first photograph the woman is proud of her body and free, but she is being slowly suppressed by the censor covering up her breasts. Art is supposed to be an expression of the artist, not to have guidelines or censored. The second picture indicates art today. That any woman in the form of art should be seen not heard. I believe that the words are trying to convey that art is loosing its true expression and that women need to be recognized and heard in the art world whether it be by a nude picture or a woman artist speaking up.
I think that the picture with the breasts covered is showing that women expose their bodies all the time but are not able to be completely shown to everyone even though that it what their purpose was. The girl with the censor over her mouth to me shows that many people think that women should not be heard and should not be able to voice their opinion.
In the beginning I see a woman being censored and degraded by having her breasts out and covered and at the end i see a woman with her mouth covered. I think it is very clear on what they are trying to say. It seems as if they don't want women to be known for there bodies and that men should decide when they are allowed to show off there beauty or not and in the end woman shouldn't be known for there mouths. They don't want women to speak up or say how they feel in order to keep us in line i disagree with what this poster represents!
The graphic shows two pictures of women; one with the breasts covered and the other with the mouth covered. I think that the 6 words are thereto show that if women allow their bodies to be censored, eventually they will lose their voice and opinions as well.
The 6 words say that its not ok for a woman to be proud of their bodies and if they are ok with it, they have to be censored and covered up. Why should we have to cover our bodies if we don't want to? Since women can't show off their bodies they are also saying we aren't allowed to say what we want. What we want and have to say doesn't matter. It says that women should not have to ability so say anything and then not have it censored or even published for others to see.
I think this graphic shows that women are only paid attention to when they are showing off their bodies. But when a woman is speaking it doesn't matter. In my opinion the 6 words mean that it started out with women being exploited and viewed as sexual objects and therefore women have become unheard and taken advantage of because of this. -Kayla Anglese
This graphic shows how the society views women. Women are appreciated for what they are showing off and not their opinions or intelligence. If a woman is exploiting her self then people will pay attention, but they are unheard if they aren't. The six words show how overtime the views of women have been completely ignored. -Courtney Wolfe
I think this picture is saying that it starts with women showing their bodies, and ends with us not saying anything about being objects in paintins. Women need to speak out and not be silenced about this issue. Also, maybe this is trying to say that it starts with men painting women naked and then women having no say in what they think of the painting.
The picture is of two women, one woman is naked with a black censor bar covering her breasts. The other, a woman who has a black censor bar across her mouth. The 6 words in this picture tell how first society wants women to be ashamed of their bodies and how women should be stopped completely from having opinions about anything at all. This states that women are treated as objects for art and shouldn't have a voice when it comes to creating art. This picture was created to bring attention to women so they can stand up against this issue. Audra Wilson
I think that the first picture shows how a womans body is exploited. The second photo could show how women don't talk about how they are exposed or how society doesn't want to talk about it. The 6 words shown and the 2 photos show how women are treated as objects in art and how women should not have a voice.
I think the first picture is saying that in history we have silenced women through art and what they want to do in life. The second picture is showing how even now in modern days people are still trying to silence women even though they have some what of a voice now. Women will soon rise in the art world and make there own path if someone will just try and give them a chance.
Both of the pictures are showing women who are slienced in some way. Women have always been thought of as people who cant do what men do. Women have to stand up for what they want and not take anything from people who are trying to stand in their way.
The 6 words are saying that art of women starts with they body being exploited and end will when women are stop being silent. Women are only treated the way they allow people to treat them, so until they speak up nothing will change.

ReplyDeleteThe 6 words say that its not ok for a woman to be proud of their bodies and if they are ok with it, they have to be censored and covered up. Why should we have to cover our bodies if we don't want to? Since women can't show off their bodies they are also saying we aren't allowed to say what we want. What we want and have to say doesn't matter. It says that women should not have to ability so say anything and then not have it censored or even published for others to see.
ReplyDeleteI think this graphic shows that women are only paid attention to when they are showing off their bodies. But when a woman is speaking it doesn't matter. In my opinion the 6 words mean that it started out with women being exploited and viewed as sexual objects and therefore women have become unheard and taken advantage of because of this.

This graphic shows how the society views women. Women are appreciated for what they are showing off and not their opinions or intelligence. If a woman is exploiting her self then people will pay attention, but they are unheard if they aren't. The six words show how overtime the views of women have been completely ignored.

I think this picture is saying that it starts with women showing their bodies, and ends with us not saying anything about being objects in paintins. Women need to speak out and not be silenced about this issue.
ReplyDeleteAlso, maybe this is trying to say that it starts with men painting women naked and then women having no say in what they think of the painting.

I think that the first picture shows how a womans body is exploited. The second photo could show how women don't talk about how they are exposed or how society doesn't want to talk about it. The 6 words shown and the 2 photos show how women are treated as objects in art and how women should not have a voice.
ReplyDeleteI think the first picture is saying that in history we have silenced women through art and what they want to do in life. The second picture is showing how even now in modern days people are still trying to silence women even though they have some what of a voice now. Women will soon rise in the art world and make there own path if someone will just try and give them a chance.
ReplyDeleteThese are all good and fair interpretations.
ReplyDeleteBoth of the pictures are showing women who are slienced in some way. Women have always been thought of as people who cant do what men do. Women have to stand up for what they want and not take anything from people who are trying to stand in their way.
